Thin Clients
Thin computing is basically a method of reducing the overall cost of IT by reducing the amount the equipment and technology at the desk. Traditionally you have a PC with a hard drive, Operating system, software, data etc for each and every user. This can get complicated and expensive as there is so much that can go wrong on each individual PC. A thin client (left) is a very basic and low cost computer that has no hard drive which is the most common and expensive component to go wrong. Infact if company data was stored on that hard drive more than just time and money can be lost! It only has the software required to connect to the server so there are no software issues. It stores no data, all data stays on the server where it is secure. They are completely interchangeable so if one fails simply plug in a spare and you're ready to go.
Terminal Server
You may be wondering how you able to load Word or Outlook on such a basic device? Thin clients have to be used in conjunction with a terminal server. A terminal server is a powerful server that can run many sessions of Windows at once. It's abit like a single computer that can have 10, 20 even up to 50 keyboards, mice and monitors attached to it over the network at once. The thin client simply provides the connection between keyboard, mouse and monitors at the desk to the terminal server.
The benefits of this are huge. Not only do you get reduced desktop PC costs but it removes the need for individual PC's for each person. No matter whether you log on in the office or at home you get the same desktop and software without the need for a laptop. You can jump on anyones computer in the office and have your desktop infront of you without even having to log off your usual computer.
We can demonstrate this technology to you over the internet in seconds. Please contact us.
